Prepaid contracting licence
Official scope: a business that solicits, negotiates or concludes contracts for work on a private home in person away from its own premises and takes money before all the work is done. Exemptions: business or commercial buildings; contracts between contractors, subcontractors and sub-trades; new homes under the Alberta New Home Warranty Program with pre-possession or deposit insurance; homes covered by the National Home Warranty Program; water-well work by a contractor holding a Class A, B or D approval. Applicability must be resolved before a licence result is interpreted.
Service Alberta's search of businesses licensed by its Consumer Programs Branch, by business name or d.b.a., licence type and municipality. It lists active licences only, shows no expiry, and the name must match the licensed name; a listing is not an endorsement. Record the exact search terms, date and result.
Consumer starting point for estimates, the contract checklist, payments and holdbacks, guarantees, and prepaid-contractor questions; recommendations are not universal legal conclusions.
Requires the exact first and last name (no middle name) and the AIT/certificate identifier, and covers Alberta-issued apprenticeship and certification results only; it shows valid certificates and active apprentices, not cancelled or suspended records.
Starting point for whether a non-Alberta certificate type may be recognized; actual credential and identity verification may require the issuing jurisdiction and consent.
Public search of licensed residential builders by builder name, person in control, licence number or location, showing licence type and status and enforcement actions under the New Home Buyer Protection Act. A home's warranty coverage is in the separate property registry; builders with a pending or refused application do not appear. Not a renovation-contractor registry.
New-home licensing scope and licence classes. From January 1, 2027, builders applying for or renewing a licence must confirm competency in four core areas (Order in Council 352/2025). Entity changes and project type affect applicability and identity matching.

Prompt payment rules for the construction industry
Current government overview including transition/amendment information. Do not calculate or apply payment, notice, holdback, lien, or adjudication rules in the product.
Official land-registry help page; construction liens are regulated under the Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act. Lien entitlement, deadlines, forms, holdbacks, title effects, and release decisions require qualified Alberta legal review.
Prepaid contracting licensing depends on prepayment, solicitation/negotiation/conclusion location, property and project type, and exemptions; a deposit alone does not resolve applicability.
Alberta has no single universal registry for every renovation contractor; provincial, municipal, safety-code, trade, and new-home sources have different scopes.
Trade lookup covers Alberta-issued individual credentials and cannot be used as a general business-licence or out-of-province credential conclusion.
Municipal business licensing, permit issuers, local bylaws, inspections, and discipline-specific requirements are not yet mapped municipality by municipality.
A missing or unmatched result may reflect identity, spelling, operating name, identifier, timing, exemption, source scope, or inapplicability and is not evidence of wrongdoing.
