British Columbia contractor-check research

Draft and unavailable. This page describes research progress. It does not provide a local conclusion or accept a paid order.

Future reports are intended to organize identity, public-record, paperwork, scope, payment, and unresolved-project evidence before a homeowner signs. Every source still needs applicability review, controlled wording, regression testing, named review, and expiry ownership.

Sources currently registered

Inclusion means the source is part of the research draft. It does not mean every source applies to every contractor, trade, municipality, agreement, or project.

registry

OrgBook BC

Public searchable directory of BC-registered organizations (name, business number, BC Registries ID) backed by verifiable credentials, with an open API. Derived public data — official filings and certificates require a BC Registries record search. Registration is identity evidence only, never licensing, insurance, qualification, or project compliance.

statute

Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act

Primary statute (SBC 2004, c. 2); Part 4 covers direct sales, future performance, and distance contracts including cancellation and deposit provisions (verified in the official TOC 2026-07-15). Contract classification, cancellation rights, and remedies are fact-specific and require qualified BC review — the product never applies them.

Residential Builder Licence Registry

Applicability depends on project type; do not treat ordinary renovation absence as adverse. Verified live 2026-07-15 (current monthly registry reports published; search supports direct GET query parameters — the most automation-testable registry in the corpus). A 2026-07-15 monitor network_error was transient.
