Who's behind Jay
A person stands behind every Full Check.
Jay is the guide. Ryan Johnson, a B.C. entrepreneur in Vancouver, built Check My Contractor and reviews Full Checks before they go out.
Why Ryan built it
Ryan has more than 25 years of experience in the construction industry, and has also started and run businesses in food retail and in software. Before a renovation, friends and family kept asking him to look into the business on their quote, so he did the checks by hand.
What he found was not villains. It was ordinary confusion: a trade name on the quote, a different name on the registration, an insurance certificate photographed on a phone, and a deposit nobody had asked about.
The official sources are public. The checks take an afternoon by hand. Jay puts them in front of you, in order, before the money moves.
How a Full Check is reviewed
Jay looks it up
The business registry, the city licence where one exists, and published tribunal and court records. Each finding is saved with its source and the time it was checked.
A person reads your papers
For a Full Check, a person reads your quote and insurance papers and reviews the whole report before it is released. Your report names who reviewed it.
Every finding says what it is
Confirmed in an official source, read from a document you sent, not found, or something we could not check. A missing record is not evidence of wrongdoing.
Corrections
Send the finding and your evidence to hello@checkmycontractor.ca. A material correction produces a new, numbered version of your report, and the original is kept.
Who pays us
Only you. Check My Contractor takes no money from contractors. You pay for the check, and the report works for you.
